Shoreditch Group

The Shoreditch Group is a project of the Centre.  It exists to:

- enable local churches to more effectively undertake the work needed to achieve social transformation in Shoreditch (an area including parts of the Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Islington and the City of London)
- help local business and community leaders to connect with people and projects in local churches that are undertaking effective social transformation.
- establishing the structures needed to make the new work sustainable and be ready to grow to meet new challenges

The Group is convened by the Centre's Senior Tutor, The Revd Adam Atkinson, and its patron is Baron Wei of Shoreditch. Helen Moules is the Project Manager.

The Group is helping local churches to engage in a wide range of mercy- and justice-based ministries, and to reflect on the role these ministries play in a holistic and effective understanding of Christian mission.

Through the activities of the Shoreditch Group, churches are

- supporting the Tower Hamlets Foodbank, and launching a sister charity in Hackney

- joining Shoreditch Citizens, ensuring the root causes as well as the symptoms of injustice are addressed

- developing programmes to care for ex-offenders, offer debt counselling and money management, and exploring new ways in which the church can promote public health.
