East London provides an excellent context in which to engage in practical study in a wide range of academic disciplines. Many of the Centre's Tutors and Fellows are available to offer their expertise to students on placement.
Jellicoe Internships
The Centre has a resident community of students from the Universities of Oxford, London, Cambridge and Notre Dame who live and pray at the Royal Foundation of St Katharine and work in our partner congregations developing their engagement in community organising through London Citizens. They are known as Jellicoe Internships in memory of Fr Basil Jellicoe, Magdalen's missioner to the slums of north-east London in the early 20th century. As well as the year-round programme, the Community also runs a Summer Internship programme, offering month-long placements in Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham. You can find out more about its life and work on the Jellicoe Blog.
We are grateful to Henry Smith Charity, MB Reckitt Trust and a range of educational partners for making this programme possible
The internship programme is part of a wider Jellicoe Community which supports Christians in their community organising work and links university students with East London communities.
Internship in Catholic social teaching
The University of Notre Dame London Centre has an undergraduate internship programme with the Centre. Placement work in parishes in London Citizens is combined with supervised reflection on the relationship between citizen organising and Catholic social teaching.
