Welcome
The Contextual Theology Centre is based at the Royal Foundation of St Katharine in East London - where Christians have engaged in worship, hospitality and service for almost 900 years, grounded in a daily rhythm of common prayer.
The Centre exists to equip Christians for faithful, generous and effective witness in multi-faith contexts. It grew out of local churches' participation in community organising, with Citizens UK as one of our founding partners.
Our work has expanded to include a range of other projects : the Greater London Presence and Engagement Network (equipping Church of England parishes and chaplaincies for ministry in multi-faith contexts); the Shoreditch Group (mapping and supporting the churches' contribution to social transformation, and sharing the learning with other contexts) and Near Neighbours (a £5 million programme to build association and trust across faiths and cultures).
These varied forms of inter-faith engagement by local churches are the basis for our growing internship and research programmes - developed in partnership with Oxford, East London and Notre Dame Universities.
